YEAR 11
Entry to Courses
Students
should note any course pre-requisites or special conditions for the subjects
they wish to apply for. Entry
to some courses is by consultation with the Year Level Dean and Head of
Department concerned. Strict
criteria apply.
Selecting Your Course
All
Year 11 students should undertake a course of study in 6 subjects. The National
Curriculum Framework requirement is that all students must enrol in English or
Te Reo, Mathematics and Science as well as a course of study in three other
subjects. Decisions should be made
in consultation with your year level Dean and staff responsible for subjects you
choose. Your Year Level Dean must
approve your choices. The range of subjects available to Year 11 students
is wide. It is important in your
planning that you keep in mind that although some subjects can be taken up for
the first time in Year 11, there are many subjects which lead from Year 11 to
Years 12 and 13.
The
National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1
will
be the
National Award for Year 11 in 2002. 1.
Students will be awarded Achievement
or Unit Standards depending on the
subjects they choose. Achievement
Standards will be awarded as credits and students will be able to gain the
credits with a merit or excellence award. Unit
Standards
will be awarded as credits. 2.
A number of subjects will have internal and external
components. Students will be given
the assessment information relevant to their subject by Subject Teachers at the
beginning of the school year. 3.
A student will need to gain 80 credits to achieve
NCEA Level 1. 60
of the 80 credits must be awarded at Level 1, 20 may come from Level 2 or above. REMEMBER
– consider ABILITY > INTEREST > LIKELY
OCCUPATION It
is an expectation that all senior students will enter for the qualification
offered in each of the subjects they are studying i.e: Unit Standards,
Achievement Standards, Sixth Form Certificate, University Entrance or
University Bursary.
