YEAR 12

Entry to Courses

Students should note any course pre-requisites or special conditions for the subjects they wish to apply for.

Selecting Your Course

·        All Year 12 students should undertake a course of study in 6 subjects. Subjects may be chosen from Year Levels 9-12.  Decisions should be made in consultation with your year level Dean and staff responsible for subjects you choose.  Your year level Dean must approve your final course choices.

·        A course of study in English is compulsory for all students, the appropriate course is to  be discussed with your year level Dean or HOD English.

·        The range of subjects available to Year 12 students is wide.  All courses are approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and give students an opportunity to study subjects that interest them and to secure a well-balanced education.

·        REMEMBER – consider ABILITY > INTEREST > LIKELY OCCUPATION

Qualifications at this Level

Sixth Form Certificate - a single subject award assessed on a 1-9 scale is currently the main award at Year 12.  It is due to be phased out at the end of 2002 and replaced with level awards for National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 2.

National Certificate Unit Standards – students gain credits which accumulate towards National Certificate Qualifications in such areas as Computing, Tourism, Hospitality, Design Technology and many others –the credits students earn can be taken on to further education or workplace training.

NCEA Level 1 – You may wish to study one or more subjects at this level

It is an expectation that all senior students will enter for the qualification offered in each of the subjects they are studying i.e: Unit Standards, Achievement Standards, Sixth Form Certificate, University Entrance or University Bursary.
