TECHNOLOGY WOOD
TECHNOLOGY J
Who can enrol? Anyone may enrol but it is advisable to have completed
at least Year 9 Wood course and the knowledge of Graphics would be a major
advantage. J
Costs: $20 J
Course
outline: The course is building on the skills gained in Year 9.
Further enhancement and basic wood skills with knowledge of other
materials, including lathe work are taught. J
Assessment: Is by presentation of a portfolio and project at the
end of every project. J

METAL
TECHNOLOGY J
Who can enrol? Anyone may enrol but it is advisable to have completed
the Year 9 Metal course and the knowledge of Graphics would be a major
advantage. J
Costs: $15
J
Course
outline: The course is building on the skills gained in Year 9.
Further enhancement of basic metal skills with knowledge of other
materials, including lathe work, welding and plastics are taught. J
Assessment: Is by presentation of a portfolio and project at the
end of every project. J

GRAPHICS J
Who can enrol? Anyone may enrol but it is advisable to have completed
Year 9 Graphics. J
Costs: No fee, but you are expected to provide your own paper,
drawing instruments and coloured pencils. J
Course
outline: The course covers the basics required for NCEA Level 1
Graphics in the following year. Methods
of projection, Geometry, house plans, presentation methods and design basics. J
Assessment: Is by units of completed classwork and the portfolio. J

TECHNOLOGY J
Who can enrol? Open Entry J
Costs: $15 Students are required to provide their own fabrics and
patterns for some design briefs. J
Course
outline: The Year 10 Fabric Technology course is designed for
students who wish to develop practical skills.
The course also includes a Design & Related Studies component. J
Assessment: Internal
assessment of projects, design and related studies by criteria expected. J
This
course leads to: Year 11 NCEA Level 1 units of work J

TECHNOLOGY & NUTRITION J
Who can enrol? It helps if you have completed Year 9 Food Technology
but it is not necessary. J
Costs: A course fee of $15 to cover material costs and an
additional $3 for course workbook. J
Course
outline: Students are required to study a number of different
topics which are accompanied by practical lessons. The topics covered in Year 10 include: z
Personal hygiene & food safety. z
Healthy food choices for self and others. z
Health promotion. z
Food Technology Units. J
Assessment: Achievement-based assessment under both the Health and
Physical Education and Technology curriculums. J
