PHYSICAL EDUCATION OUTDOOR EDUCATION NCEA Level 1 or
Unit Standards J
Who can enrol? Students who enjoy the outdoors and who are willing to
work hard to achieve high standards. Students who wish to follow a career in outdoor
adventure activities. At HOD PE
discretion. J
Costs: $100 course fee to cover materials and some course
activity costs. Transport costs and
fees related to field work and specific course content may be involved as course
is developed. J
Course
outline: It is proposed that this course will be run in
conjunction with Instructor training at the Tai Poutini Polytechnic.
The course will primarily be Water based in
content with the basic St Johns First Aid course being conducted mid year. Where-ever possible the course will consist of Unit
Standards assessment. The course
content is still being developed but could consist of: Š
White water kayaking Š
River rescue Š
Sea kayaking Š
Š
Surf life saving Š
Surfing, body boarding Š
Leadership development J
Assessment: NCEA Level 1 and Unit Standards J
This
course leads to: The Year 12 Outdoor
Education course. Personal Recreation and Life Skills. Further training and careers in Tourism/Outdoor
Pursuits. J

Who can enrol? This course is offered to students who wish to continue
on to do Year 12 Physical Education and Year 13 Bursary level Physical
Education. The
course offers lots of variety and interesting topics.
The Recreation component will be planned as an Outdoor Education
component and may include Mountain Biking or Tramping. J
Costs: Not yet decided J
Course
outline: The course is a full time 4 period per week course and
offers 24 credits towards NCEA qualifications.
