TECHNOLOGY

 

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY - Wood or Metal

 

NCEA Level 1 

 

J    Who can enrol?

The entry requirements for this course are for you to have:

@                  A strong grasp of the technological design process gained through Year 9 & 10 Wood or Metal Technology or  Graphics in Year 9 & 10.

@                  A strong skills base gained from Year 9 & 10 Wood or Metal Technology.

 

J    Costs:

$25 to cover materials used such as sand paper, glue and miscellaneous bits of wood. You are expected, in the main, to provide your own materials.

 

J    Course outline:

This course is based on a full years work.

Students are expected to design and make 4 projects as well as complete 5 related studies.  All work will be presented at the end of the year for an external moderation.

 

J    Assessment:


Is by external moderation

Craft = 55%

Design = 25%

Related Studies = 20%

GRAPHICS

 

NCEA Level 1

 

J    Who can enrol?

Anyone may enrol but it is advisable to have completed at least Year 10 Graphics.

 

J    Costs:

No fee, but you are expected to provide your own paper, drawing instruments and coloured pencils.

 

J    Course outline:

NCEA units of work.  The course builds upon the skills gained in Year 10.

 

J    Assessment:

Internal and external

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY (Fabrics)

 

NCEA Level 1

 

J    Who can enrol?

Students who have taken Year 9 and/or Year 10 Fabric Technology and show they have both potential and positive work habits which are likely to lead to a successful result in NCEA Level 1.

 

J    Costs:

$20 per year

Students are required to provide their own fabrics etc for design briefs.

 

J    Course outline:

Students are required to work through a number of Design Briefs solving practical problems.

Students are required to work with a variety of materials assigned to each brief and complete NCEA units of work.

 

J    Assessment:

Internally Assessed and Externally Moderated.

 

J    This course leads to:

Year 12 Fabric Technology Unit Standards

FOOD TECHNOLOGY & NUTRITION

 

NCEA Level 1

 

J    Who can enrol?

It helps if you have completed Year 10 Food Technology but it is not necessary.

 

J    Costs:

A course fee of $30 to cover material costs.

 

J    Course outline:

Throughout the year a selection of achievement standards are covered.  These standards will include practical and written components based around the following topics:

z          Safe Food Handling Practices.

z          An understanding of cultural, societal, family and community influences in relation to food and, hauora/wellbeing.

z          Nutritional needs of self and others.

z          Analysis and evaluation of nutritional information.

z          Food Technology in relation to finding solutions and formulating design briefs.

 

J    Assessment:

There will be both internal and external assessment and this will depend on the nature of Achievement Standards covered.

 

J    This course leads to:
