PHYSICS Sixth form
Certificate J
Who can enrol? Students with a pass in SC Maths and Science. J
Costs: N/A J
Course
outline: A course based on problem solving.
Emphasis on applied examples and interactive learning.
Lots of hands
on labs and computer simulations (try our computer simulation programs on the
school intranet in C1 under physics or on the internet at our website http://ghs7px.8k.com) Topics covered: ~
Light and Waves eg: radio waves, fibre optic cable,
ultra sound etc… ~
Mechanics eg: what limits a cars speed, satellite
orbits, parachuting etc… ~
Electricity eg: build a motor or generator, wire up
circuits that work etc… ~
Nuclear Physics eg: how do x-rays work, what makes an atomic bomb. J
Assessment: Internal assessment spread throughout the year. J
This
course leads to: Bursary Physics. Also many employers and training organisations require
or prefer a candidate with a 5 or better in Sixth Form Certificate Physics.
Certainly anyone considering a career in electronics, engineering, most
branches of the health industry (eg: physiotherapy, radiography, veterinary
science, pharmacy, medicine etc..) and many other areas should take Physics. J
