There are no pre-requisites.

Year 12 students after approval by HOD English.

J    Course outline:

1.  Introduction to civilizations of Ancient Greece and Rome.

 

2.  Selected topics from:

          - Alexander the Great

          - Socrates

          - The Aencid

          - Roman Religion

          - Art and Architecture

 

J    Assessment:

UB - 3 hour exam

 

J    This course leads to:

Tertiary education - Classical Studies, Latin, Greek

HISTORY

 

 Bursary

 

J    Who can enrol?

Open to all students but recommend having completed Year 11 and/or Year 12.

 

J    Costs:

There will be some field trip costs and some optional study books that the students will have to pay for.

 

J    Course outline:

Early Modern England:

&      Economy and Society: family life; the role of women; popular beliefs

&      Politics in the Age of Elizabeth I, James I and Charles I

&      The English Civil War:  causes, consequences and the restoration of Charles II.

 

J    Assessment:

60% external University Bursary examination.

40% internally assessed Special Studies.

 

J    This course leads to:

University level courses.

Degree in Arts.

GEOGRAPHY

 

Bursary

 

J    Who can enrol?

Open to all students but preference is given to those who have completed Geography at Year 11 and/or 12.

 

J    Costs:

A field trip is planned with associated expenses.

 

J    Course outline:

3 Main Studies:

þ      Natural Process - a detailed look at how the natural environment is created.  (Field trip to Paparoa's).

þ      Cultural Process - a detailed look at how tourism operates in New Zealand and overseas (overnight field trip).

þ      Planning & Decision-making - a study of a local issue and how decisions are made, an individual study.

 

J    Assessment:

34% Internal assessment.

66% Bursary examination.

 

J    This course leads to:

University level courses.

Degree in Arts or Science.

Local body employment.
