DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

 

Unit Standards

 

J    Who can enrol?

The entry requirements for this course are for you to have:

@                A strong grasp of the technological design process either gained through Year 9 & 10 Wood or Metal technology and/or Year 11 Design Technology or that covered by Graphics Year 9 to 11.

@                A strong skills base gained from Year 9 & 10 Wood or Metal technology and/or Year 11 Design Technology.

 

J    Costs:

$20 to cover materials used like sand paper, glue and miscellaneous materials, but you are expected to provide your own major or special material.

 

J    Course outline:

This course includes both wood and metal based projects as well as related studies.

The course is made up of units of learning (Unit Standards).  These units are intended to extend and assess the student's design and make skills as well as other knowledge related to materials and safety.  It is the intention to work through these Units using these skills with your tutor's guidance and assistance in decision making and skill extensions.

The number of Units attempted by the student will be determined by the workload they impose.  They will have six Units to complete within this time with more available if required.

(Course requirements are that the student is fully extended over the full year of study).

Unit Standards internally assessed

Tertiary or on the job training.

GRAPHICS

 

 Bursary

 

J    Who can enrol?

Anyone may enrol but it is advisable to have completed at least Year 11 Graphics or better to have a realistic chance at UE Graphics.

 

J    Costs:

No fee, but you are expected to provide your own paper, drawing instruments and coloured pencils.

 

J    Course outline:

This is a Bursary course and includes design problem solving with knowledge of projection methods and presentation techniques.

 

J    Assessment:

Is by criteria set out in the student information pack given out at the start of the year in class.

 

J    This course leads to:

Tertiary study.

FABRIC TECHNOLOGY

 

 Unit Standards

 

J    Who can enrol?

Preferred pre-requisite - students who have completed Year 12 Fabric Technology to a satisfactory level.

 

J    Costs:

$15 fee.

Students are required to provide their own fabrics etc for design briefs.

 

J    Course outline:

Unit standards Level 1, 2, & 3.

The topics depend on the ability of the students concerned.

 

J    Assessment:

"     Unit standard moderation

"     Achievement based assessment

 

J    This course leads to:

Provide students with an opportunity for further design and make programmes.

HOSPITALITY & CATERING

 

Unit Standards

 

J    Who can enrol?

Pre-requisite is for students to have completed Year 12 Hospitality & Catering.

 

J    Costs:

A course fee of $40 to cover material costs.

 

J    Course outline:

Students will study and complete a selection of Unit Standards covering food and beverage service in the Hospitality Industry.

 

J    Assessment:

Hospitality Standards Institute (HSI) Unit Standards - practical and written assessment.

 

J    This course leads to:

Completion of the Level 1 National Certificate in Hospitality & Catering which was started in Year 12.
